Wreck on I-24 in Massac County claims Florida man’s life

Illinois State Police say a man has died after his vehicle hit the rear of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 24 in Massac County Wednesday.

ISP says the wreck, which involved the tractor trailer and a Subaru Outback, happened eastbound on I-24 at mile point 37

The semi — driven by 28-year-old George E. Lingerfelt of Galax, Virginia — was headed east on I-24 in the left lane, and it came to a stop because eastbound traffic was merging into one lane leading up to a construction zone. ISP says the SUV failed to reduce speed and hit the rear of the semi. The SUV's driver — 21-year-old Jerome J. Warmus of Windermere, Florida — was pronounced dead at the scene.
