Verso will be idling Wickliffe Mill indefinitely
The Verso paper mill in Wickliffe will be indefinitely idling according to a letter from the President and CEO.
The letter obtained by WPSD says they are idling the plant to reduce production capacity. The company says demand for coated paper in North America has declined over the last several years.
The Wickliffe Mill has one paper machine with the capacity to produce 280,000 tons of coated paper and 30,000 tons of dried market pulp.
The idling will begin in the fourth quarter of this year and will layoff approximately 310 employees.
President and CEO Dave Paterson says the company is looking at alternative manufacturing options for the mill.
A second mill in Androscoggin, Maine will have a pulp dryer and a paper machine shut down. That shut down will eliminate approximately 300 jobs.
