SIU crime report

We’re breaking down crimes and other offenses from a report released Wednesday by the department of public safety, specifically,at Southern Illinois University.

The data from 2014 shows underage drinking as the offense campus police deal with the most.

Crimes against society, which include drinking and drug possession, increased 92 percent —461 of these crimes were reported last year.

Theft under $500 is the second most-reported crime. Students reported 142 cases.

There were also 65 cases of domestic battery, battery, and criminal sexual assaults.

Later this semester the department of public safety will release a more in depth look at crime on SIU’s campus
