State police to increase patrols during Labor Day holiday

The Kentucky State Police says it plans to increase patrols during the Labor Day weekend.

KSP says during the holiday weekend last year there were six alcohol-related highway deaths on Kentucky roadways, and law enforcement officers arrested 55 people for DUI during the same time period.

In addition to statewide DUI enforcement, KSP says it will conduct statewide traffic safety checkpoints in an effort to enforce all traffic laws. Special detail will be paid to seat belt use, vehicle safety, insurance compliance and registration violations.

The 2015 Labor Day enforcement period begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept.4, and extends through Monday, Sept. 7, at 11:59 p.m.
