Ferry helping farmers avoid road work will be available Labor Day

A temporary ferry allowing farmers to get around construction on the KY 56/IL Route 13 Ohio River "Shawneetown" bridge will be available on Labor Day.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet set up the ferry in July because road work prevented farmers from moving large equipment over the bridge.

A spokesperson from the agency says they decided to keep the ferry open on Labor Day after farmers expressed interest in moving equipment during the holiday.

The Shawneetown bridge connects KY 56 with Illinois Route 13 across the Ohio River between Morganfield, Kentucky and Shawneetown, Illinois.

The temporary ferry is available to farmer from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
