Three vehicle wreck kills motorcyclist
A wreck involving a car, a motorcycle and a SUV in Franklin County, Illinois, resulted in a man’s death Monday night, according to state police.
The Illinois State Police says the wreck happened at 10:32 p.m. Monday. A Dodge Journey was driving eastbound behind a Kia Optima on Illinois Route 14 near Water Road. When the Dodge drove into the westbound lane to pass the Kia, ISP says, it hit a Harley Davidson motorcycle driving westbound.
ISP says after the motorcycle hit the front of the Dodge, the SUV sideswiped the Kia. The driver of the motorcycle — 34-year-old William M. Barger of Christopher, Illinois — was fatally injured.
The driver of the Dodge — 37-year-old Kristina L. Johnson of Whittington, Illinois — was uninjured, and her passenger — 23-year-old Chelsea A. Hayden, also of Whittington — sustained minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital. The driver of the Kia — 51-year-old Irene K. Biggerstaff — and her passenger — 18-year-old Kara L. Biggerstaff — both of McLeansboro, Illinois, were uninjured.
ISP says the road was closed for about four hours for investigation and cleanup. The SUV and motorcycle had to be towed from the scene,
Johnson was cited for improper overtaking. ISP notes that additional investigation into the crash is pending.
