1900s doctor’s office restored

After graduating from medical school in 1899, Dr. Thomas Lamkin had an office in the Springhill community of west Kentucky.

The one-room building has been moved to the Hickman County Museum, where volunteers are working to restore it.

Volunteers used as much original material from the building and time period as possible.

Here’s the events schedule for Heritage Days, as per the Clinton Hickman County Chamber of Commerce website:

Tuesday Sept. 8: School Day at the Historical Society and Museum – tour the Historical Society and view the Hickman County Museum’s schoolroom. Some visits are scheduled. All school personnel, all community members are invited this day or any day (open hours to be announced).
Wednesday, Sept. 9: Court Square Day at the Museum and Historical Society – A special invitation to civic clubs and open hours for everyone, times to be announced.
Thursday, Sept. 10: Historical Society and Museum have no planned events except for open hours to be announced. Downtown businesses are encouraged to join in celebrating Heritage Days this day, any day, or all week.
Friday, Sept. 11:

  • 3:30 p.m. – Anniversary Cake Break at the Hickman County Museum. All are invited to celebrate the museum’s 21 years in Hickman County and to check out progress on the Lamkin Doctor’s Office.
  • Between activities have a look at "oldfangled" menus being served at downtown restaurants, Nicky’s, and Ruby Faye’s. 
  • 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. – Old Time Hymn Sing at the Historic First Christian Church. Join friends from all denominations to sing the hymns of your childhood. Hosted by the museum, historical society, library, local officials, and Sarah Bowman. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.

Saturday Sept. 12: 10 a.m. until noon – The Historical and Genealogical Society welcomes the public to a ribbon-cutting of their new Reading Garden and to tour their extensive collection of historical and genealogical material.
