IRS phone scam making its way around Kentucky

Kentucky residents should be on alert for an IRS tax scam.

Treasurer Todd Hollenbach says scammers are calling Kentuckians saying they are from the IRS and that the person they called owes money to the IRS.

The scammers then threaten to take legal action if they don’t pay up.

Hollenbach says the IRS will not initially contact you by phone.

If you get one of these calls you are asked to report it.

You can do that by calling Attorney General Jack Conway’s Office of Consumer Protection at 888-432-9257.
