KSP: Man evades checkpoint, takes aim at officers

Kentucky State Police arrest a man after a checkpoint pursuit Saturday night.  KSP and Christian County deputies were conducting a traffic safety checkpoint on US41A near the 11 mile marker when they say Carlos Washington, 31, of Clarksville approached the checkpoint in the right lane, but as officers approached the vehicle, the driver swerved into the left lane.

KSP says Washington accelerated northbound toward Hopkinsville and entered the northbound ramp of the Pennyrile Parkway.  KSP started a pursuit and were able to catch up with Washington when he exited the Parkway at the 9 mile marker.  He was arrested and taken to the Christian County Jail.

He’s charged with:

Disregarding signal of officer directing traffic and fleeing
Wanton endangerment, 1st degree (police officer) 4 Counts
Fleeing or evading police, 1st degree (motor vehicle)
Disregarding traffic control device
Operating on suspended or revoked operator’s license
DUI, 1st offense (aggravated circumstances)
Failure of owner to maintain required insurance, 1st offense
Failure to produce insurance card
