Police find stolen gun in trash can after foot chase

Charleston police recovered a stolen gun over the weekend.

The Charleston Department of Public Safety says officers were called to the basketball courts at Lincoln Park just before 2:00 p.m. on Sunday on reports of a man with a gun.

A suspect matching the description was found a short time later.

Officers chased the man on foot and arrested him.

They also found a loaded firearm hidden in a trash can.

The gun was reported stolen to the Cape Girardeau Sheriff’s Department in July.

25-year-old Jermare Farmer of Charleston was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, receiving stolen property, and resisting arrest.

He was taken to the Mississippi County Jail. Bond has been set at $50,000 cash or surety.
