Drivers urged caution on Lake City bridge for inspection

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says drivers crossing the U.S, 62 Cumberland River Bridge at Lake City should use caution, as an inspector will be looking at the bridge Tuesday evening.

KYTC spokesman Keith Todd said the inspector is headed to the bridge to check on a minor incident reported to the Coast Guard. A harbor tug pushing nine loaded barges brushed up against the bridge. No damage was reported to the barges and only a scrape to the bridge pier.

The bridge is still open to traffic because the incident was minor, Todd said, but the bridge inspector will run a safety check on the bridge. The inspection should take an hour to complete, and if the inspector gives the all clear highway traffic won’t be interrupted.

The U.S. 62 Cumberland River Bridge is at the Livingston-Lyon county line, immediately below Barkley Dam at Lake City.
