Dragon Boat Festival this weekend

Dragons will be on the river in downtown Paducah this weekend.

On Saturday, the River Discovery Center will host its 4th annual Dragon Boat Festival on the Ohio River.

More than two dozen local teams will be racing by paddling 41-foot-long boats.

Money paid for by the teams and sponsors will help support the education programs at the River Discovery Center.

The event is free for spectators and begins at 9:00 am.

To prepare for the event, the Broadway entrance to the riverfront will be closed to traffic on Friday starting at 4:00 p.m. The Kentucky riverfront entrance will be closed at 11:00 p.m. on Friday. Both entrances will be reopen to traffic around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

During the festival, Broadway will be closed at 2nd Street to the riverfront. Water Street will be closed between Kentucky Avenue and Broadway, and the entrance to Maiden Alley will be closed at Kentucky Avenue.
