Ky house speaker asks what can be done to help improve trooper safety

The speaker in the Kentucky House of Representatives is asking the Kentucky State Police Commissioner to look at ways to increase safety for troopers in the field.

House Speaker Greg Stumbo sent a letter offering condolences to Commissioner Rodney Brewer over the death of Trooper Cameron Ponder.

In the letter, Stumbo asked what the General Assembly can do to help make sure troopers return home safely at the end of their shift.

He says an idea suggested to him was to have the cruisers retrofitted to have more bullet resistant glass.

Trooper Ponder died after he was shot while pursuing a car.
