Late night fire destroys southern Illinois mobile home
A mobile home is a total loss after a late night fire in southern Illinois.
The Jackson county Sheriff’s Department says they were called to a fire on Kimmel Bridge Road in rural Jackson County around 3:25 a.m. Wednesday.
The victim and only resident of the home was outside with his three dogs.
He told deputies that he was awakened by a smoke detector and saw a fire in the interior hallway.
The victim says he gathered his three dogs and by the time he got to the front door, the home was fully engulfed in flames.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze.
The mobile home is deemed a total loss.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but may be electrical related.
The American Red Cross is helping the victim.
