Shooting at ConAgra plant in Princeton kills ones, injures another

One person was killed and another was injured after a shooting at a local plant Wednesday afternoon.

The incident happened in a parking lot at the ConAgra plant in Princeton, Kentucky around Noon.

Princeton police say 37-year-old Nellie Renee Nichols of Dawson Springs went to the plant to confront her mother. The two argued, and police say Nichols fired a gun at her mother. The bullet missed and instead hit a bystander in the hand.

Nichols then reportedly turned the gun on herself. She was taken to the Caldwell County Medical Center and was pronounced dead by the county coroner as the result of "an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."

The bystander was also taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The police chief says by 2:30 p.m., work at the plant resumed as normal.

A spokesperson with ConAgra says they are working with police on the investigation.

None of the three people involved are ConAgra employees, but the mother and the man injured were employees of a subcontractor – Ryder- with ConAgra.
