Local K9 awarded ballistic vest
A dog that protects humans in Metropolis, Illinois, is getting some protection of his own.
Protecting officers, detecting narcotics, tracking and searching, and make building and article searches are all in a day’s work for Metropolis Police Department K9 Jocobo. The Belgian Malinois came to the police department from the Little Rock K9 Academy in Arkansas.
Jocobo was awarded the bullet and stab protective vest by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The Massachusetts nonprofit provides the protective vests to dogs across the country. The Metropolis Police Department says Jocobo’s vest was sponsored by Staci Goveia, of Lynwood, Illinois, and will be embroidered with the words “In memory of K9 Kye, Oklahoma City Police Department.”
The vests the nonprofit provides are valued between $1,795 – $2,234 each. For more information about Vested Interest in K9s, click here.
