Local bridge opening months ahead of schedule

The U.S. 60/U.S. 62 bridge over the Mississippi River that connects Alexander County, Illinois, with Mississippi County, Missouri, will open to all traffic on Tuesday, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

In March of this year, we reported the bridge needed to be closed to fix more than 60 floor beams. The bridge was originally scheduled to be closed until March of 2016.

The department announced Friday that the contractor on the bridge project was able to finish the repairs five months sooner than expected.
