Members agree to merger between electric companies
Customers of Hickman Fulton Counties Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation voted to merge with Gibson Electric.
2,672 ballots were mailed to customers. Of those returned, 1,711 voted yes and 242 voted no.
Hickman Fulton’s RECC board chairman says the merger will save the average customer $212 per year.
The next step in the process is for Gibson’s members to vote at a special meeting on November 17 at the Co-op’s Tiptonville member service center.
If Gibson Electric members approve the merger, it will become effective January 1st of next year.
No pay cuts or job cuts are expected from the potential merger.
