What the Tech: Fake online reviews
You can find out just about anything you need to know about a store, restaurant, website, or charity just by reading reviews online.
But just like Facebook posts, you shouldn’t believe everything you read.
Mixed in with actual reviews are the fakes.
The New York Attorney General cracked down on bogus customer reviews and fined 19 companies posting grand things about their products or services and giving bad reviews to the competition.
That practice is illegal.
How do you know if a review is real or not?
Do they say anything negative at all or is it a 5 star review with words like awesome or perfect? It if reads like a commercial, it probably is.
Look for the 2, 3, and 4 star reviews. Those are more likely ones written by people who actually purchased the products.
