YouTube rolls out ad free subscription service
YouTube’s new subscription service, called YouTube Red, will charge you $10 a month to hide the ads on all videos, as well as on YouTube kids and YouTube gaming.
The benefit of that to the casual YouTube watcher is clear. However, YouTube video creators have, for the most part, earned revenue from the ads that are plastered across the screens.
Instead of those ads, YouTube will pay the most popular YouTube creators a percentage of the subscription fee pie.
In addition to removing the ads, YouTube Red allows for offline viewing, so you can watch a video when you don’t have an internet connection.
And YouTube will continue playing even when you’re using another app or turn the screen off.
But how many people will pay the $10 a month for YouTube Red? That’s more expensive than Nettling, Hutu or Amazon Prime, and just $5 less than HBO Now.
Google is sweetening the pot a bit. YouTube Red will also include subscription to the premium membership of Google Play Music.
