Autopsy results in Calloway County family deaths released

Calloway County Coroner Rick Harris says the preliminary results of an autopsy performed in Louisville on a family found dead in their Calloway County home Tuesday have been released.

The deaths of 29-year-old Bulmaro Arellano, 23-year-old Marisol Hernandez-Arellano, and their two children — who the coroner named as 5-year-old Miguel Hernandez-Arellano and 13-month-old Marisol Hernandez-Arellano — were each ruled a homicide.

The autopsy found that the cause of Bulmaro’s death was multiple gunshot wounds to head and body, and 23-year-old Marisol’s cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the face. The causes of death for the children are listed as "pending additional study" for each child.

The Kentucky State Police says it believes both children succumbed to smoke inhalation, but that further testing is being conducted for verification. KSP says its investigation shows the fire at the home was intentionally set to cover up the murders.

The community has been mourning the deaths of the family, who are being remembered by their church community, surviving family members, and Miguel’s school
