Mississippi County man charged with sexually abusing multiple children

An East Prairie man has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing multiple children.

The Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office says on Monday a resident reported that their child had been sexually assaulted by 76-year-old Arlen "Russ" Lee Jones.

Two deputies found Jones and brought him into the Mississippi Detention Center for an interview.

During the interview, the deputies developed probable cause to believe that Jones had sexual contact and intercourse with multiple children under the age of six.

Jones was arrested and charged with three counts of statutory sodomy in the 1st degree, child molestation in the 1st degree, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor in the 1st degree.

The deputies say the incidents took place while the children were under Jones’ care.

Sheriff Keith Moore says that additional victims have been identified and that additional charges are expected.

Jones is behind bars on a $500,000 cash only bond.

An investigation is ongoing.
