Burglary suspect arrested after neighbor spots flashlight in home

A Murphysboro, Illinois, man was charged with residential burglary Monday after officers responded to a report that someone was walking through a home in the dark with a flashlight, according to the local police department.

The Murphysboro Police Department says when officers arrived, they saw someone lying on the floor in what the department says was an attempt to hide. Officers entered the home and took 22-year-old Garrett Peterman into custody.

Police say the homeowner arrived later, and they told officers Peterman wasn’t allowed in the home and identified items found on Peterman as having come from the home. Peterman was jailed in the Jackson County Jail.
