Last Saturday Before Christmas

Time to shop for gifts before Christmas is running out with many us still needing to cross items off our list. The National Retail Federation says before Saturday only 10% of holiday shoppers could say they were finished.

Super Saturday is considered the second busiest shopping day of the holiday season, second behind black Friday for in-store revenue.

Sisters Sandy Long and Lisa Upton drove from Illinois to Kentucky Oaks Mall in Paducah.

“I traveled today with my sister to meet my mom so we could do our yearly Christmas shopping together, last minute of course,” Upton said.

They’re in a situation similar to many others across the nation. The NRF says before Saturday the average holiday shopper had about 46% of their gift list left.

Aside from shopping, these sisters also see Saturday as a way to bond.

“Since we don’t live close to each other we’re able to get together for at least one day, and just make a day of it, and do lunch, and all those kind of things. Have a family day,” Upton said.

The busiest time for shoppers on Super Saturday is between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. according to ShopperTrak? data.

While some have procrastinated to buy presents, others have finished, using the day to have fun like Ryan Martin and her children.

“We’re kind just chilling, and letting the kids have a good time,” Martin said.

Martin says she’s relieved she finished shopping last weekend.

“I just decided that I wanted to get it done, be done with it, not have to stress over it, and be able to have a good time and relax,” Martin said.

She rather spend Saturday at Vertical Jump Park, adding that it’s better to shop before it gets close to Christmas because of less crowds and more options to help pick the perfect gift.
