Man suffers heart attack while driving, dies after hitting tree

Hopkins County deputies says a heart attack was the cause of death for a man who was also involved in a crash Sunday morning.

Deputies responded to the area of Hopkinsville Road near Cunningham Road around 9:40am.  Witnesses told deputies James Perkins, 50, was driving northbound on Hopkinsville Road when he veered off the road and into the southbound lane.  He continued to cross both lanes of traffic and went through a ditch.  Perkins’ car then hit a tree.

No one else was injured.  Deputies say Perkins suffered a heart attack that caused the wreck and his death.
