Alexander County leaders ask for voluntary evacuation

County leaders in Alexander County, Illinois, are implementing a voluntary evacuation order for folks in some areas.

Board of Commissioners Chairman Chalen Tatum tells Local 6 the board is implementing the order due to flooding.

Tatum says the Alexander County Board is asking for volunteer evacuation for the low areas behind the Lynn Small Levee and areas surrounding Fayville, Miller City, Willard, Olive Branch, Hodges Park, Unity, Sandusky and Cache.

"We ask everyone if you leave your home to notify (me) at 618-521-8102, Sheriff Tim Brown 618-203-6057 or IEMA at Highway department 618-776-5431 so we know you have made it out safely and to put extra patrols on your residence," Tatum said.
