Floodwaters push barge into bridge pier
A barge hit a bridge pier Tuesday night.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the US 60 Tennessee River Bridge at Ledbetter was hit around 11:30 p.m.
The captain said he was pushing 15 empty hopper barges when the strong currents caused by the floodwaters pushed him into a pier.
Traffic was reduced to one lane for about 45 minutes so that an inspector could check the pier for damage.
The all-clear was given, but a second check will be done Wednesday morning.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says this is the first time that the bridge has been hit since it opened at the end of July 2013.
The US 60 Tennessee River Bridge connects McCracken County and Livingston County between Paducah and Ledbetter.
