Grand Tower, IL evacuation upgraded to emergency status

People living in Grand Tower, Illinois are being encouraged to evacuate the area.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is concerned about the stability of a section of the Big Muddy River Levee and have upgraded the evacuation to an emergency status.

Residents are encouraged to go to the Red Cross Shelter in Murphysboro.

Transportation will be provided for those in need. Buses will be leaving from the Grand Tower Civic Center.
