Two arrested in Scott County farm tool thefts
Two men face multiple charges relating to the theft of tools from a Scott County, Missouri, farm, according to the local sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office says it got a report Wednesday morning of a burglary in which tools and a utility trailer were taken from a farm east of Benton, Missouri. Later the same day, another burglary was reported in the area in which nothing was reported missing. Wednesday evening, deputies say, the property owner in the second incident contacted investigators and reported a suspect had returned and tried to steal tools.
The property owner told investigators the suspects fled in a vehicle, but they left behind a bag of tools removed from the machine shop on the property. Investigators say they used a vehicle description the property owner gave them and found 31-year-old James H. Daniels II, of Bell City, and 26-year-old Grant Daniels, of Benton.
Investigators say the two men had burglar tools when they were found, and that the majority of the stolen property was recovered, including the utility trailer.
James and Grant Daniels are jailed in the Scott County Jail. James is charged with two counts of second degree burglary, two counts of stealing, and two counts of property damage. Grant is charged with two counts of second degree burglary, two counts of stealing, two counts of property damage, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. A cash bond has been set at $1,500 for each.
