Mt. Vernon, IL man injured in crash on Interstate 57

A Mt. Vernon, Illinois man was seriously injured in a crash on Interstate 57 Thursday.

Illinois State Police say a car was traveling northbound on I-57 near milepost 88 in Jefferson County when it drifted off the road into the grass median.

The driver of the car, 20-year-old Natashia Dyer of Opdyke, Illinois, overcorrected steering to the right and the car went across both lanes and off the right side of the interstate.

The car then hit a tree causing 23-year-old Timothy Dotson-Napier of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, to be ejected through a window.

Dotson-Napier was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to Deaconess hospital in Evansville, Indiana with major injuries.

Dyer and another passenger were uninjured in the crash.

Dyer was cited for improper lane use and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

An investigation is ongoing.
