DEA congratulates Mexico on recapture of drug lord Guzman
After two previous prison escapes, some experts say Mexico will have little choice but to answer calls to extradite Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman to the United States, but that transfer is unlikely to happen quickly.
Mexican marines recaptured the world’s most notorious drug lord yesterday after a gun battle in which five suspects were killed and six others arrested. One marine was injured.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration says it is "extremely pleased" by the recapture.
Guzman, head of the powerful, international Sinaloa Cartel, was taken back to the same prison he escaped from in July.
He was expressionless as he was marched to a waiting helicopter.
Guzman is a legendary figure in Mexico who went from a farmer’s son to the world’s top drug lord.
