Paducah Martin Luther King Jr. Day schedule

The city of Paducah has announced its Martin Luther King Jr. Day schedule.

The annual Martin Luther King Jr. March to the Monument and luncheon will be held Monday, Jan.18.  It’s organized by the Paducah-McCracken County Chapter of the NAACP.

The city says a march for the laying of the wreath at the Martin Luther King Jr. monument will start around 10 a.m. at the Robert Cherry Civic Center. Participants will walk east in the median of Park Avenue to the monument on Martin Luther King Drive, just east of N. 21st Street. There’ll be a police escort and a vehicle to carry people who would rather ride. The wreath laying ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m., followed by the annual luncheon at the Civic Center at 11:30 a.m.

The city says Martin Luther King Jr. Day affects city services:

  • City Hall will be closed.
  • The city won’t collect brush or limbs.
  • The Compost Facility at 1560 N. 8th St. will be closed to the public.
  • The trash collection schedule for the week of January 19-22 will not change.  If you have a question about the Compost Facility or trash collection, contact the Engineering-Public Works Department at 270-444-8567.

For more information on the march and luncheon, call the Paducah-McCracken NAACP at 270-443-5430. To see a flyer with Martin Luther King Jr. Day events, click here
