Dr. Ted Jefferson arrested and charged after alleged “melt-down” at Baptist Health Paducah

We have received more information on the arrest of Dr. Ted Jefferson.

According to a report from the Paducah Police Department, an officer was called to Baptist Health Paducah on January 26 on reports of terroristic threatening.

The officer met with hospital administration who said they were informed around 5:30 p.m. that Dr. Jefferson was in surgery having a "melt-down" and using profane language. It was reported that Jefferson stated, "I guess administration will be happy if I come in here with an assault rifle."

According to the report, hospital administration confronted Jefferson and told him to cool down for about 30 minutes. After that cool down period, Jefferson went back into surgery and allegedly stated, "who’s the weasel who called administration to complain about me?"

Jefferson was once again confronted by hospital administration. The report indicates the administrators said that Jefferson became belligerent, making another reference to an assault rifle and allegedly mentioning something about "not knowing when." Administration then suspended Jefferson for 72 hours and had him escorted out of the building by security.

The next day at 3:18 a.m., officers found Jefferson in the parking lot at Baptist Health Paducah. Jefferson told the officers that he was coming back to his office to write administration an email.

The two officers said they heard Jefferson state that the only way to get anything done is to go home and get a pistol or rifle. The report states that Jefferson also told the officers that he was acting out of anger and was upset the medical supplies were unsanitary.

Paducah police say body cameras on the officers were recording at the time.

Jefferson was arrested and charged with terroristic threatening and disorderly conduct. He is currently out on bond.

Baptist Health Paducah is not commenting on the arrest at this time.

Jefferson’s lawyer, Rick Straub, spoke with Local 6’s Brianna Clark. He says right now they are undecided if they will file a lawsuit against the hospital.

She will have more on their response coming up tonight on Local 6 at Six.
