Audit says Lyon County sheriff owes county money
An audit says Lyon County Sheriff Kent Murphy owes the county $1,215. Kentucky’s auditor released his findings Tuesday, which show two different times the auditor found Murphy wrongly spent money from the county’s drug fund.
The audit highlights one in 2013, when the sheriff spent $787 on pencils and rulers that had his name on it. The latest was $428 in 2014, when the sheriff apparently used drug fund money to buy rulers —again, with his name on them.
The fact that the items had Murphy’s name on them is why the state says he should have paid for them with his own money.
