Murphysboro man arrested and charged after leading police on chase

A Murphysboro, Illinois man is in the Jackson County jail charged with several traffic and felony violations.

Murphysboro police say it all began with a traffic stop of 53-year-old John Friedrich.

It ended with a long chase, two crashes, and significant damage to his vehicle, a police cruiser, and a local business.

Friedrich was eventually arrested. He was treated at a local hospital before being booked in the jail.

He’s been charged with:
Aggravated DUI
Speeding/Radar (60 mph/45 mph)
Disobeying Traffic Control Device
Aggravated Speeding (70 mph/25 mph)
Aggravated Fleeing/Aggravated to Elude
Failure to Reduce Speed/Accident
Driving with License Revoked
Expired Registration
Operating Uninsured Vehicle
Failure to Reduce Speed/Accident
Criminal Damage to State Supported Property
