Fire destroys farm house

A farm house burned down Tuesday morning on Highway 3 in Illinois, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded to the scene at 10:51 a.m. on Tuesday to find "large volumes of heavy smoke and fire" at the two story farm house. They say the home owner was not in the house when the fire started.

Units from the Ava, Campbell Hill, Gorham, Willisville, Murphysboro Pomona Somerset, and Chester fire departments were called to the scene to help fight the blaze. Ava Police also assisted with traffic control.

Deputies say the home was deemed a total loss, and no determination has been made yet about what caused the fire.
