Mayfield to vote on packaged alcohol sales

A vote on packaged alcohol sales will happen in the city of Mayfield, Kentucky.

The group Yes for Mayfield delivered a petition with 1,300 names to County Clerk Barry Kennemore Tuesday afternoon. Kennemore says they only needed 424 to force the special election.

The group says the change will help the city prepare for development along Interstate 69.

"It’s an obstacle not having this and so, if we remove that obstacle, we’re going to be able to grow and create jobs and have opportunity that we otherwise wouldn’t have," says Steven Elder with Yes for Mayfield.

Kennemore says his office is now looking through those names to make sure they belong to people who live in the city. After that, he will then set a date for the vote.
