SEMO warns against scam targeting students

Southeast Missouri State University says it wants to warn students about a phone scam where the caller claims to be with SEMO Student Financial Services.

The university says the scam caller asks the student to pay an amount immediately by credit card.

"Please note that if you are contacted and that person is not able to give any specifics of your record, or you are suspicious of any phone call asking for money…you can review your account online and/or make payment, through your secured student portal," the university said in an announcement Friday.

SEMO says you can also tell the caller that you will contact the financial services office directly to verify the information. SEMO Student Financial Services can be reached at 573-651-2253.
