I-24 chase lands South Carolina man in local jail
Friday, Kentucky State Police responded to call about a reckless driver on I-24 in Lyon County.
Troopers noticed Franklin R. Vicars, Jr., 57, of Whitmire, South Carolina, was driving westbound when, for an unknown reason, he slammed on his brakes causing a 2009 silver Dodge Caravan to hit the back of his Ford Explorer.
KSP says Vicars continued to drive west and was involved in an altercation at the Minute Mart Gas station off exit 31 off I-24 in Livingston County before the scene.
Troopers and an Officer with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division of the Kentucky State Police made contact with Vicars near the Marshall County and McCracken County line. Troopers saw Vicars perform multiple traffic violations and when they attempted to stop him, he refused to yield and units performed a rolling road block to force him to a stop.
He was arrested and faces charges in Lyon, Livingston and McCracken Counties. Among them, he’s charged with wanton endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, assault, DUI, and reckless driving.
