Sheriff’s department investigates death of 1-month-old girl

A 1-month-old girl was pronounced dead at a local hospital after her father awoke to find her unresponsive, according to McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden.

Hayden says a local couple had 1-month-old twins —a girl and a boy. The sheriff says Wednesday night the father heard the girl crying, picked her up from the crib and sat on a couch nearby to feed her.

The sheriff says a family member entered the room around 7:20 a.m. Thursday to find the father asleep and the baby face down on the couch. Hayden says the girl had no visible trauma.

She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled Friday. Hayden says the sheriff’s department and the coroner’s offices are continuing to investigate the death.
