Dancing with Our Stars sets fundraising record

This year’s Dancing with Our Stars set a new fundraising record for the event, according to Lourdes hospital.

The hospital partners with the American Cancer Society for the dance competition. Lourdes says the 10th annual fundraiser, which was held at the Julian Carroll Convention Center Saturday night, raised $278,830.

Money is raised through sponsorship of dancers, a silent auction that this year featured cellphone technology to place bids, ticket sales and voting for dancers.

Lourdes says for the first time in the history of the event, two people shared the top prize: Gina Fraser and Daniel Jones. The hospital says winners are chosen based on the amount of money raised, as well as the retail value of the silent auction items.
