State police release details in fatal wreck on U.S. 62 in Lyon County

The Kentucky State Police says an Eddyville man died after his pickup truck crossed the center line of U.S. 62 in Lyon County and drove into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer.

The wreck happened around 2:09 p.m. at mile point 13.5 of U.S. 62, east of Interstate 69. Troopers say 49-year-old Michael Lefan was driving a pickup truck eastbound when the truck crossed into the path of an oncoming semi driven westbound by 61-year-old Dennis Barlage of Effingham, Illinois.

Lefan was transported to Caldwell County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by hospital doctors and the Caldwell County Coroner.  Barlage was not injured in the collision.

Troopers say Lefan was not wearing his seat belt, and that alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the wreck.

KSP Post 1 was assisted at the scene by the KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the Eddyville Police Department, the Eddyville Fire Department, the Kuttawa Fire Department, Lyon County EMS, Lyon County Rescue, and the Caldwell County Coroner’s Office.
