Bridge under construction hit by tow boat

A tow boat struck some of the construction work for the new US 68/KY 80 Lake Barkley bridge.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says around 4:10 a.m., wind caught a tug pushing empty barges and blew it into construction forms for one of the piers for the new bridge.

Crews were first concerned the current Lake Barkley Bridge was also hit, so they reduced traffic to one lane for an inspection to look it over.

The inspector found no damage on the old bridge, however there is some minor damage to the work area for the new bridge.

It may take a week or more to fix it.
