Man charged in murder now facing arson and burglary charges

A man charged in connection with murder in Marshall County has now been charged with burglary and arson in McCracken County.

38-year-old Joseph Cunningham of Paducah was charged Saturday by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office with the murder of 47-year-old Gary J. Lambert of Calvert City.

Lambert was found Friday night in a home in Possum Trot. He died of a single gunshot wound. An investigation into the murder is ongoing.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department says the burglary and arson of a home at 4102 Schneidman Road happened on Thursday.

The homeowner says she went to her home and discovered it was on fire around 10:30 a.m.

An investigation found that the fire was started in four places and that the home had been burglarized. Jewelry and four firearms were stolen.

A cat was also found dead in the home from what appeared to be smoke inhalation.

Cunningham was deemed a person of interest and detectives began looking for him.

Around 5:00 a.m. Friday, detectives were told by the Mt. Vernon, Illinois Police Department that they had Cunningham and another Paducah resident, 40-year-old Kristy Keener.

Both were charged by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office with retail theft, possession of a stolen firearm, felon in possession or use of a weapon, and received or be in possession of a stolen vehicle.

Cunningham was also charged with having an outstanding warrant from Marshall County.

The vehicle they were stopped in also had several firearms inside which may be the firearms stolen from the home of Schneidman Road, and belonged to Gary Lambert.

Surveillance video from Shooters Supply showed Cunningham and Kenner in the store Thursday afternoon. The two are accused of stealing several pairs of boots and camouflage clothing. The two are believed to have been wearing some of the stolen clothing at the time of their arrest.

Arrest warrants were issued in McCracken County for Cunningham and Kenner.
