Calvert City man charged with writing bad checks to local businesses

A Calvert City man has been charged with writing more than 10 bad checks to McCracken County businesses.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department charged 34-year-old William Reason with theft by deception charges.

Detectives say between December 9, 2015 and January 8, 2016, Reason purchased items at local businesses with personal checks, knowing there wouldn’t be sufficient funds in his account.

Eleven bad checks were written on the following dates at the following businesses:

1) 12/26/2015 Trees N Trends $570.71

2) 01/06/2016 Food Giant $604.25

3) 01/06/2016 Food Giant $675.67

4) 12/09/2015 Advance America $471.59

5) 12/26/2015 Trees N Trends $188.34

6) 01/02/2016 Food Giant $243.77

7) 01/02/2016 Food Giant $262.82

8) 01/03/2016 Food Giant $359.96

9) 01/03/2016 Food Giant $261.80

10) 01/06/2016 Food Giant $243.79

11) 01/08/2016 Food Giant $285.22

In total, $4,167.92 in checks were written. Detectives believe Reason may have written more checks in other local counties which could total in the thousands.

Reason, who is already incarcerated in the Marshall County Jail, was served warrants on Monday.

He is charged with three counts of theft by deception over $500 and eight counts of theft by deception under $500.
