EgyptAir jet hijacked, several passengers released

Egyptian aviation authority says four foreigners and the flight crew are on board on a hijacked EgyptAir jet Tuesday morning. The plane made an emergency landing at Larnaca Airport in Cyprus. A spokesperson for "FlightRadar24" told the Associated Press that Flight MS181 did not show any immediate signs of distress while in the air and that the flight made a typical landing in Cypress. The pilots did not signal any trouble via their transponder.

The hijacker claimed to be wearing a vest full of explosives. A spokesperson for Egypt’s Civil Aviation Ministry told CNN that’s likely untrue. The spokesperson said security has been tightened across all Egyptian airports. CNN still hasn’t officially confirmed that claim.

The plane was en route to Cairo from Alexandria when the hijacking happened.

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident yet this morning.
