Afghan Taliban launches Operation Omari

The Afghan Taliban launched "Operation Omari" this morning around 5:00. It’s their spring offensive, promised to be long and bloody.

Organizers say the offensive in honor of Taliban founder, Mullah Mohammad Omar. He died three years ago.

In an email to media organizations, the militants say waging jihad against the American invaders is a holy obligation.

The group has been riven by infighting since Mullah Omar’s death became public last summer. New leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor had run the insurgency in his name for more than two years.
