Mother of fallen trooper runs to honor son’s memory
Devastated, but finding a way to heal: The mother of a fallen Kentucky state trooper is opening up about her son’s death for the first time.
Joseph Cameron Ponder died on duty in September after he was shot in Lyon County. His mother, Brenda Tiffany, is now running. She says she never ran more than a mile before, but when some friends approached her about a memorial run honoring Ponder, she had to find a way to cross the finish line.
She’s been training every day for three months.
"I start praying from the minute my foot hits the ground," she says. "It’s an outlet for me. They are the most passionate prayers, and I really feel them and I feel that Cameron is right there with me running."
The Trooper Cameron Ponder Memorial 5K and 10K is Saturday morning in Hardin County, Kentucky. All proceeds will go toward a scholarship for the county’s high school seniors.
