Purchase Parkway restriction planned at KY 80 interchange in Mayfield

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet  says a contractor plans to restrict traffic along the Julian Carroll-Purchase Parkway work zone at the Kentucky 80 Exit 22 Interchange at Mayfield next week.

The restriction will be Tuesday, April 19, and Thursday, April 21. KYTC spokesman Keith Todd says the contractor will use a crane to place precast concrete beams on the new KY 80 Overpass through the middle of the interchange.

Todd says the placement of the crane and maneuvering of trucks to deliver oversized beams will mean traffic on the main line of the Purchase Parkway will need to be routed up the exit ramps, then immediately back down the entry ramps. That will be the case for northbound and southbound traffic.

That’s likely to create traffic back-ups at the construction site, Todd said, and significant delays are possible. He says drivers should seek an alternate route, if they can.  Extra caution will be required if you drive through the work zone.

Todd says KY 80 remains closed at that site until about July 1 while construction of the new overpass within the interchange is going on.
