Attempted bank robbery suspect arrested in Carbondale

Carbondale, Illinois, police have arrested a suspect in an attempted bank robbery that happened early Wednesday afternoon. 

Police say around 12:16 p.m. Wednesday officers responded to the Regions Bank at 601 E. Main St. for a reported attempted bank robbery. Investigators say they were told a white male suspect demanded money from a bank teller and left the bank on foot without receiving money or property. They say no weapon was displayed during the incident or recovered afterward. 

A suspect, 19-year-old Alex M. Hofmaier was found in the area, police say, and arrested without incident. Hofmaier was charged with robbery and jailed in the Jackson County Jail.
